Well, that was loads of fun!! Aside from Dancing in the Streets, it was a totally different set list from what I was expecting. I was SURE they'd play Sailor/Saint, but it didn't turn up, and you know, I didn't even mind because everything else was so much fun. One of those shows where I liked the first set as much if not better than the second. That Jack Straw was a wonderful surprise, I was so, so glad to hear it, plus I think it was one of the best versions I've heard DeadCo play, admittedly I'm biased though.
Fantastic venue, too! I'm very excited to have this place so close, I can't believe I'm home already. It's an hour+ closer to us than Pine Knob or the Palace, our previous big venues, and as sports arenas go, the sound was very good. Being brand new (first shows were in October), everything was very clean and up-to-date, and all the staff were very friendly. Better yet, before the doors open you can get into a few restaurant/bars attached to the venue, get your ticket scanned and bag checked there with NO line, and then when it's time for doors to open, the bar just opens a series of "garage doors" that open right onto the main concourse of the venue, so you're already right there. It was so nice and EASY, I loved the logistics! For me, that kind of thing really makes a show, especially when it means you can avoid being outside in the cold, like tonight when we got there an hour early. Our seats had a great side view, too. I didn't even look at the screens 95% of the time because we could see so well. Very nice folks around us, too, as well as enough empty seats to allow for dancing room.
So, after all the worrying I did beforehand about dealing with Detroit, a new venue and whether we'd end up with an obstructed view, it was all just exactly perfect!!!!
