Headcount

Post by Shroomopotamus » Mon Jul 08, 2019 12:25 am

I went over to the Headcount booth the other night at Folsom and it's kinda fucked up

I just wanted the pin and to enter the giveaway for the purrdy ole guitar but to do so they make you do few different things at a few different booths to get little stamps on a card for each one showing you did them - nothing wrong with that, being a part of the whole thing, whatever.

The problem with it is they just straight up seem to be using fans as political pawns. They have you send pre-written messages to legislators and what not without even telling you what you're saying to them or without even knowing what it's regarding themselves.

I thought this shit was all about just getting people registered to vote.

One in particular was regarding voter rights. I asked the dude, what's this about that isn't already a part of current voter rights? And he was just like "I don't have a clue" - It seemed to totally throw him off like nobody even thought to ask about what they're doing until then.

Being a giant stadium show you're always in a bit of a rush to get back to your spot so I just said fuck it and got used for a pin and fraction of a percent of a chance of winning a guitar, but I felt like the whole set up had a pretty dark vibe to it no matter how good (or bad :think ) their intentions are.

I don't even think I got entered in the guitar giveaway, I don't remember giving a name or anything on the stamp card :doh

I like my pin though.

interesting...

All I had to do was spend money on a water bottle...last year...

If anyone has a water bottle from this tour they dont want, let me know!

anyway that's kinda weird no one knew what it was about.

I bought a pin this summer at the merch booth....

this added nothing to your topic, but I appreciate your post!

Issue education
Supporting volunteerism
Enabling direct participation in democracy
Promoting sustainable living
Facilitating communication and community-building among socially conscious music fans
Working directly with artists and the music industry to serve their philanthropic and cause-related objectives in a manner consistent with HeadCount’s mission

Since voting is a complete scam, and both major parties are distractions to keep people appeased and pacified and not motivated to take action against the Elite, I was also disappointed to see the emphasis on this imaginary democracy on this tour. We never saw any such nonsense with The Grateful Dead.

The Greenpeace table was a fixture on tour in the 80s and 90s inside the venues with the Band's permission. Owsley used to hang out there and that was where I met him.

Greenpeace was an anti-government direct action organization before they were corrupted. I worked for them at one time. You certainly wouldn’t catch any of us back in the day thinking we could vote our way out of this.

A brief list of summaries about their beliefs doesn't really explain anything. Nobody at these booths has a clue what they're sending out in their pre-written texts.
Getting people signed up to vote is one thing, getting people to vote your way is another.
It seems like complete abuse of power and made me pretty uncomfortable with the band as a whole afterwards.
Are they in charge of this? Are THEY being used?... Either way, I don't dig it.
I've had great times at their shows but it made me uneasy about going to see em again.
